Carolina Herrera Beauty, Jimmy Choo Beauty, and Gucci Beauty have leapt into the makeup world, and I’m putting their lipsticks to the test.   I grabbed the highlighter and a lipstick from Carolina Herrera, a lipstick from Jimmy Choo and one from Gucci.  All are satin, and I wanted to see if there was one that reigned supreme in this luxury battle. Rocking our Breezy Tee Mustard Boho Head Wrap, I dug in.

First up is Carolina Herrera Beauty.  They want their makeup to be pieces of art.  You can buy tassels, and little baubles to adorn your individual lipstick cases.  For their compact, there are different different covers you can pick.  They launched with lipsticks, a highlighter and face powders. All the prints of the lipstick cases, and compact covers are prints from Carolina Herrera’s incredible career.  The products are sustainable makeup products, because these are meant to be keepsakes that you don’t throw away.  They’re fun! Personally, because I’m in my 40s, the extras for the lipsticks and compact cases feel a little young, but for the right woman, she’ll get a kick out of it.

Because CH is a luxury brand, I expected that to carry over into the packaging of their makeup.  The one disappointing thing is how unsubstantial the packaging feels.  It’s plastic, and very lightweight. So, that was a bit of a letdown. It looks cute, but it feels a bit cheap.

The Highlighter
, from Carolina Herrera is absolutely gorgeous.  It’s a beautiful creamy texture. The champagne gold color wears beautifully on my brown skin, and I LOVE cream highlighters, because they don’t emphasize anything on my face.  It blends beautifully with a brush or finger. It’s very pigmented, and a little goes a long way. There is no glitter, just a beautiful glow, that can be built up. I so hope more colors are to come, because I will be all over it.  This was a beautiful surprise.

The Herrera Beauty Drama Drama Lipstick is DIVINE!! Once I saw CH would be releasing brown lipsticks, I knew my first one had to be brown.  This is a color I did not have. It is the PERFECT brick brown/red.  It’s so stunning on brown skin, but is also a universal color. It’s incredibly creamy, highly pigmented, and a beautiful consistency.  It feels lush on my lips. So, although the brand missed a bit with the materials in the packaging, my word, the products are beautiful.  I will definitely get more lippies in the future, and I look forward to the brand expanding.

Next up is the Gucci Painted Veil satin lipstick.  This color is also available in matte and sheer, and funnily enough, each seems to yield a different color payoff.  I am a nude lipstick lady.  It’s where I lean, and it’s hard to find a new shade of nude, once you have a few.  Painted Veil is a shade I did not have. On my hand, it looked like a dusty rose, but on my lips, it had the most beautiful slight brown hue to it.  So, a dusty rose with a bit of brown. This might be my new favorite nude. It’s just so pretty, and works with, or without, a lip liner. It too is creamy, not too thin, and not too thick.  I definitely want to try out more Gucci lipsticks now, and I’m curious to watch them grow too. Currently they have lipsticks, a face gloss, a mascara, and powders will be out soon.

Finally was the Jimmy Choo Daring Pink lipstick.  Jimmy released lipsticks and nail polishes.  It is quite the curious combo. I picked up Daring Pink because it looked like a beautiful color between a nude and a bright lipstick.  Because I love nudes so much, I need those in between colors, when I want to jump outside my comfort zone. This was better than I could have imagined.  It’s a gorgeous punched up rose, but not quite a fuchsia. There is some warmth there. It is incredibly pigmented, with just one swatch. Of the three, this one might have the most sheen.  It feels fantastic on the lips, and is a beautiful consistency. There is a fun snakeskin design on the actual lipstick. Now, about that packaging… Jimmy Choo came through with the over the top luxury touches.  The lipstick case is in the shape of one of their famed heels, with a golden ball on top. It comes in its own light beige sleeve. It’s just fun! The formula is so great, I’ll most certainly grab another lippie.  Perhaps I’ll try a matte next time.

This battle was a draw.  Each brand came out the gate strong, in terms of product performances.  The lipsticks all have something special about, and each color shined on me.  And, the Carolina Herrera highlighter is one I will go back to again and again.
