Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair Yay or Nay For Natural Hair??

The Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair deep conditioning hair cap system has been on a lot of “best of” lists, for 2018.  I kept seeing this hair mask pop up, and I had to know if this would be a good deep conditioner for my natural hair ladies. Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair Yay or Nay For Natural Hair?? I’m always on the lookout for great natural hair products, especially a good deep conditioner for curly hair.

Being a natural girl, with pretty thick hair, the idea of a hair mask kit with its own cap was exciting, and a little daunting, because I typically need two plastic caps for my deep conditioner sessions, so I was wary.

Nonetheless, I LOVED the idea of a deep conditioning hair mask kit, until I saw the price!  This is not a cheap deep conditioner, but knowing it had 4 treatments in the box somehow justified the price.

There are three simple steps to the deep conditioner.

  1. Apply conditioner to hair. PAUSE!! I don’t know how I didn’t notice, but I assumed the hair mask was in the white part of the package and the cap was in the coral section.  HOW WRONG I WAS!  All the product is in the small, coral, section of the packette.  I knew immediately, it wasn’t going to be enough hair conditioner, but I wanted to give this a fair shake.

I went about sparingly putting the deep conditioning hair mask all over my hair.  It must be said, when I normally deep condition, it is quite obvious I’ve got product on my hair.  This was not the case here.  Briogeo, I was despairing at this point.

It did smell good, that was the first thing I noticed. So, with the hair conditioner stretched as thin as I could get it, I moved on to the next step.

  1. Place hair in cap and massage for 15 seconds. Let cap sit on head for 15 minutes to an hour. PAUSE!! There was no way all my thick hair was going under that cap. Considering there was serum in the cap, I had to give it the ol’ college try.

To my surprise, more hair than I thought would fit, fit in the cap.  I was most concerned with my ends being conditioned, so I managed to get them in.  The cap, however, was just too small.  I don’t do partial deep conditioner for natural hair. All my natural kinky coily hair needs conditioner.

I knew if this hair mask had any chance of working, even just a little bit, I had to leave it on the full hour, so I did.

  1. Remove cap and rinse hair with warm water. Sigh… An hour later, I proceeded to rinse the deep conditioner out. Every time I’ve ever done a deep conditioner hair mask treatment, especially one left on for an hour, my hair was incredibly soft.  This Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair left my hair feeling anything but soft.

The truth is, there wasn’t enough conditioner in one packet, to fully condition my hair and to see any benefits.  So, I rinsed my hair out and was left disappointed.

I LOVE the idea of a deep conditioning kit.  It’s convenient.  It would be great to travel with.  I get it!! The idea is awesome.  I could never recommend this kit to a person with a lot of hair though.  Had I used two packettes, all my hair would have been conditioned, but then it would no longer be cost effective.

I get more product from deep conditioners that cost half the price.

Other than not having enough product, the cap just wasn’t big enough.  Because of the serum in the cap, it’s not like I can just substitute it with a plain plastic cap.  Because of that, as my hair grows, and less hair fits into the cap, this conditioner just wouldn’t make sense.

So, for the ladies with shorter, less full hair, this might be something to try, but is the best deep conditioner for natural hair? Not for mine.  There are so many other options for a natural hair conditioner, that yield better results for thick hair.

Briogeo Don’t Despair Repair, it’s a no for me!
