arc Jacobs Steel(etto) Eye-conic palette has been creating a lot of buzz.  “Finally, someone released a cool eyeshadow palette.”  That has been the overall sentiment I’ve seen since the brand released its first picture of this eye palette.  I wanted to try out the new Sonia G. Pro Eye Set brushes, and this was the perfect palette for the job.  Rocking our heather gray Satin Lined Beanies, I dug in.

Marc Jacobs Steel etto Palette + Sonia G. Pro Eye SetA cool eyeshadow palette and brown skin can be a very tricky proposition.  There is no way around it.  Often times, cooler colors can end up looking muddy or even ashy, which is why many women of color cling to warm palettes.

What drew me to this palette was the “concrete jungle” concept.  I’m a New Yorker, born and raised, and the colors reminded me of home.  Plain and simple!! It reminded me of the streets, and the buildings and the moodiness of my city.  So, I was intrigued, even knowing that the colors could be difficult for me to pull off.

Marc Jacobs Steel etto Palette + Sonia G. Pro Eye SetI never worry about quality with a Marc Jacobs eyeshadow palette.  This Steel(etto) palette is extremely pigmented, and a little goes a long way.  While the mattes can be a little chalky, they are nonetheless extremely pigmented, and easy to blend out.  With chalkier mattes, particularly when dealing with a cool palette on brown skin, I find going in light is the best approach.  If you have too much product on the eye, that is the easiest way for things to get muddy.  So, go in light, and build from there.  I also found using fewer colors avoided the look going ashy.

As cool palettes go, this one is a keeper.  It’s moody, for this moody girl, it was a great match.

Sonia G. Pro Face Set BrushesThe Sonia G Pro Eye Set came to play.  Handcrafted in Kumano, Japan, her brushes are easily the softest brushes I’ve ever used on my eyes.  No more dragging a scratchy brush trying to achieve a nice eye look.  Each brush picked up just the right amount of product, and allowed me to blend them out seamlessly.  The set allowed me to achieve a really polished, sophisticated, eye look, with colors I was unsure of.  They allow me to get to the precise place I want to go with each color.  Most of all, my application is cut Marc Jacobs Steel etto Palette + Sonia G. Pro Eye Setdown, because each brush does its job quickly and precisely.  I can’t say enough about the Sonia G Pro Eye Set and all her makeup brushes.
