Rocking our Mocha Satin Lined Beanie, I dug into the new Fenty Beauty collection.
Truth be told, Fenty Beauty got me excited about makeup again, so it holds a special place in my heart. I’m always excited to see what they’ll do next.
When the first wave (pun intended) of the Beach Please collection was released, I immediately got the Body Lava in Brown Sugar. I also picked up the Kabuki brush, because I was looking for one anyone, so it came out right on time. The brush is beautifully full and soft, and Body Lava was made for vacation, and the summer. The brown shimmer, across my brown skin, is stunning. And while the price was something that got people talking, there is so much product in the bottle, you’ll have it for some time.
The second wave of Beach Please products included lip kits, liquid eye shimmers and new foiled Killawatt highlighters. They pushed the color boundaries with these highlighters, with bright orange, fuchsia, purple and even a green highlighter.
Enter the Killawatt Foil in Sand Castle/Mint’d Mojito. Sand Castle is a stunning light brown color, and the reason I knew I needed THAT highlighter. In the pan, the Mint’d Mojito was a subtle green, yes green. Now, I’m not one to wear green makeup, but it was subtle enough to be intriguing. At 40, I tend to lean towards more subtle hues, unless we’re talking Pat McGrath!
WARNING: A little goes a long way. These highlighters did not come to the party to go sit in a corner. They can built up for even more shine, or lightly tap some on for a more natural glow. The highlighters can be used on your cheeks, eyes and lips. The idea is to have fun.
I also picked up one of Beach Please’s Island Bling 2-in-1 Liquid Eye Shimmers, in Summer Fling/Reignbow. (You can tell Rihanna has a lot of fun naming all her products.)
This eye shimmer has two sides, each color with its on wand. Summer Fling is described as a deep metallic bronze, and Reignbow, an iridescent gold. The other shimmer is rose gold and opal. Already having a rose gold liquid shadow in my collection, I went for the brown and gold. Summer Fling is a beautiful rich color, with just the right amount of shimmer. If you’re not into too much color, but want a sexy, warmer eye this summer, this may have your name on it.
I was convinced I could only wear the two colors separately, because the two together would be too much, but boy how wrong I was. Applying the gold to the lid, livened up the brown in the most beautiful way. Surprisingly, although it is described as iridescent, it’s incredibly tasteful, and more importantly it felt age appropriate.
Overall, I’m quite happy with my choices. There is something for all different tastes. I appreciate Fenty Beauty playing with lots of bold colors for summer, but also throwing in more subtle shades for those of us who like a bit more subtly. I’m looking forward to what they’ll be bringing us this fall.
