I had a hunch Fenty Beauty would be coming out with a more universal eye shadow palette, and I was right. With their first matte shadows on display, Moroccan Spice drew me right in.
As always, you can tell how much fun Rihanna had naming the shadows. With names like Mo’rockin Ice, Marrakush and Cumin Get it, we are reminded that makeup is supposed to be fun, and not taken too seriously.
Along with the eye palette, two eyeshadow brushes, a black liquid liner and an eyeshadow primer were also part of this launch.
While I only got the tapered blending brush, primer, and the palette, I’ve only heard brilliant things about the “Flyliner” liquid liner.
I used the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Amplifying Eye Primer first. Apply the primer with a wand, and then tap it into the skin with your finger. Then you want to let it dry down and then apply your shadows. What I love about the primer is it is not sticky and it blends in easily. The shadows adhere to it very easily and I didn’t experience any fallout, which for me makes for a good eyeshadow base.
With Morocco as the inspiration, this palette is filled with such lovely earthy, warm mattes, shimmers, satins, pearls, and metallics. There are also bursts of colors, with the stand out being a beautiful teal shadow. The earth tones make the perfect transition colors for my brown skin. The beautiful copper eyeshadow and gold eyeshadow adds just the right amount of sparkle. With or without the primer, the colors show up, which I think is a testament to this eye palette. I had no fallout, which is always a pleasant surprise.
There is incredible versatility in the palette. You have a few options to go smokey, for a nighttime look, or keep it light and easy, for a daytime look. I particularly love the gray matte eyeshadow to add smoke, and the deep plum colors that give a beautiful dark eye.
The tapered blending brush is not as tapered as I like. I had the intention to use it for my crease. However, I’m quite the fan of Fenty Beauty brushes, and this one is no exception. It’s incredibly soft and blends out beautifully.
If you’re into earthy tones, with the versatility to take you from day to night, I can recommend this eyeshadow palette.
The only note I’d make is depending on skin tone and preference, some of the colors might show up lighter than you want on your eyes. If you’re into blinding pigmented eyshadow, I don’t know if you’ll fully appreciate this eye palette. If you don’t mind more toned down shadows, this will be for you.
