Rouge Hermes lipsticks are here, and I couldn’t be more excited.  I picked up Orange Boite, Violet Insense, and Rose Boise, along with the Universal Lip Pencil. No sense pretending, I have not been this excited for a makeup release in some time.  With 24 lipsticks, the birth of the the brands 16th metier is born. By the way, 24 comes from the Hermes street address. Details, details, details!  Wearing our Breezy Tee Blush Cocoa Headband, I dug in! Rouge Hermes Orange Turns Red

Hermes is the ultimate house of sophistication, luxury, and quality.  So, it was only right that they brought those same principles to their first makeup product, their Rouge Hermes Lipsticks, as well as a lip brush, universal lip pencil, a balm and a lip gloss.  There was no detail left to chance. With shoe and jewelry maker extraordinaire, Pierre Hardy, in charge of the design, we are treated to a gorgeous color block design.  If you are familiar with Hardy’s work, this is very much an extension of what he does so well.  They are made of brushed metal, polished, and perhaps most importantly, sustainable.  There is no plastic in these lipstick cases. These “objects,” as Hermes calls their products, are refillable.  I’m thrilled out the gate they chose to do refillable lipsticks, that cut down on plastic waste.  On the top of the cap is the Hermes emblem.  So, these pieces of art are keepsakes.

The permanent line of lipsticks have gold, black and white cases, and each season there will be three limited edition lipsticks, with uniquely colored cases.  These lipsticks were a collaboration with not just Pierre Hardy. Bali Barett, the women’s artistic director, along with Jerome Touron the Hermes Beauty creative director were in charge of the colors and textures of the lipsticks.   The brands perfumer, Christine Nagel gave the lipsticks their beautiful scent.  With bringing their top people together, Hermes went into this new metier ensuring success.   And, this is just the start. Every six months, Hermes Beauty will introduce a new category of makeup, and expect a full makeup line in just a couple of years.

First up is Rose Boise.  I’m a lady who loves a nude, so I had to grab at least one, the first time.  The colors of all the lipsticks were inspired by the 75,000 silk, and 900 leather swatches, are  housed in Herme’s archives. Rose Boise is one of 10 mattes in the collection. It’s beautiful. It’s very pigmented, so I got nice coverage with very little product.  It is extremely lightweight, and moisturizing. It is the perfect matte, as my lips never felt dry. The smell was also divine, as there were hints of rose. Love the matte formula, and will purchase more in the future.

Next up is Violet Insense, one of the three limited edition lipsticks for this launch.  The special case is blue, red and white, perhaps in honor of the French flag?  This satin lipstick is a gorgeous purple hue. It so incredibly rich. It too is lightweight, and very pigmented, and moisturizing.  I thought it would be a really flattering burst of color on my brown skin, and boy was I right! However, it’s a shade that will look good on any complexion.

Finally, I tried the one I was most excited to try, Orange Boite, which translates to orange box, as in the iconic Hermes box, each object is delivered in.  We’ll talk more about that in a second. I definitely did not have a shade like this in my collection.  I’m not into bright reds, so I thought a bright orange might be the perfect twist. This too is satin, and feels beautifully moisturizing on the lips.  It’s a little more sheer than I thought it would be, but the color is gorgeous, and surprisingly was a perfect match for my complexion. My lips are a little darker, so I had to put a little bit more on to get it where I wanted it, but this shade showed up on me, just as I hoped it would.  It’s beautiful, bright, but not overwhelming. I may try the matte shade in the future.

I also picked up the Universal Lip Pencil.  I was very curious about how this colorless liner would work.  It is said to increase the wear time for the lipstick, and help to get a more precise application.  I tried it under the Violet Insense and it has the most interesting texture. It smoothed out the lined on my lips, and made the lipstick feel more substantial.  As someone whose lips are not always as smooth as I want them to be, this liner will help a lot.

So, about those Orange Boxes.  Each lipstick comes in the iconic packaging. But first, is a white box, with a little orange peaking through.   Once opened, you will find your orange box. Inside, you will find a canvas pouch with your Rouge Hermes lipstick in it.  It’s like opening the best Christmas present. Honestly, I’ve always admired Hermes dedication to excellence, quality and details.  They’ve inspired me in business, and these lipsticks beautifully follow in the tradition of all their other gorgeous objects. From saddles to lipsticks, I can’t wait to see what comes next!
